About Malinska

Malinska is a charming costal town located in the northwestern part of the island. Together with the twenty or so villages scattered around it, it forms the historic area of Dubašnica. The most important natural resource of this region is the specific power and beauty of the sea and of the forests of Dubašnica.

The beaches on the territory of the municipality of Malinska-Dubašnica are connected by a number of promenades creating a harmonious, natural whole.  When it comes to grooming, the beaches vary from those with concrete slabs to pebble and wild, rocky beaches that require an adventurous spirit to enter the sea. Together with the many hidden and secluded bathing areas located in small coves, they are well worth the visit.

Whether you're lounging on the shores or snorkeling in the pristine waters of Paradise road, there's no shortage of breathtaking views to behold. The town boasts a vibrant atmosphere, with bustling waterfront promenades, quaint cafes, and lively bars.

The cuisine of Dubašnica is characterized by a simplicity and richness of flavor. Fresh fish, scampi, shellfish and local pasta "šurlice" are often found on the tables of local kitchens.  Small, oily fish occupy a special place on menus, especially sardines and anchovies.

Olive trees and  groves dominate the landscape of Dubašnica. They surround Malinska from the old village of Sršići to Porat, and can be seen next to homes and in gardens. The lauded olive tree has been growing on the island since ancient times. rees are pruned in March and picked in October, when the  groves are bustling with olive pickers of all ages.

In 2016, on the EU common market, olive oil from Krk was registered and protected according to geographical origin. The interaction between environmental factors, local varietals, human elements and the tradition of olive cultivation and  oil production has given rise to a product known as Krk olive oil, with features  unique to the island.

In addition to its natural beauty, Malinska also has a rich history dating back centuries. The town was once a thriving fishing village, and its traditional boat makers and fishermen played a vital role in shaping its maritime heritage. Today, visitors can still catch a glimpse of this storied past by exploring the town's charming harbor and admiring the colorful fishing boats. In response to the community's need to preserve its maritime heritage, the hardworking people of Malinska created the DUBoak Maritime Heritage Interpretation Center, where you can put together your own boat or sail through the folds of space and time, jumping into the virtual world almost 200 years into the past and sailing from Malinska towards Venice.

The town is also steeped in folklore and tradition, with colorful festivals and events held throughout the year to celebrate its cultural heritage.
