About Kvarner

The Kvarner region, is situated in the northern part of the Croatian coast. At its heart lies Rijeka, an important historical port city that has long been a gateway to the Adriatic Sea.

Rijeka's maritime legacy dates back centuries, with its strategic location attracting traders, sailors, and explorers from across Europe and beyond. As a vital hub of commerce and cultural exchange, Rijeka played a crucial role in shaping the region's identity.

In 2020, Rijeka was honored with the title of European Capital of Culture, a testament to its rich cultural heritage and vibrant arts scene. Under the slogan "Rijeka - Port of Diversity", the city celebrated its multicultural past and embraced its role as a melting pot of different traditions and influences. It is also important to mention Rijeka's carnival, one of the largest in the world, transforms the city into a vibrant spectacle of color, music, and revelry every year. With elaborate costumes, lively parades, and festive atmosphere, it's an unforgettable celebration that draws visitors from near and far. But Rijeka is just one facet of the Kvarner region's allure.

Along its picturesque coastline, visitors will find the Opatija Riviera, often referred to as the "Adriatic pearl."  This elegant resort destination has been attracting royalty, aristocrats, and celebrities since the 19th century, drawn by its stunning scenery, mild climate, and luxurious amenities.

Venturing further into the Kvarner archipelago, one encounters islands steeped in history and natural splendor. On Lošinj Island, the legacy of Apoxyomenos, a bronze statue dating back to ancient Greece, captivates visitors with its intriguing history and cultural significance.

Meanwhile, Cres Island is hailed as a haven on earth, with its rugged coastline, amazing beaches, and hidden bays inviting visitors, divers, and sailors to experience the best of the sea. Among the many beauties that the Kvarner Bay boasts, the islands of Rab and Pag contribute to the captivating narrative of the sea, crafted by the Kvarner Bay.

No visit to Kvarner would be complete without indulging in its world-renowned cuisine, which reflects the region's maritime heritage and abundant natural resources. Kvarner scampi, prized for their delicate flavor and succulent texture, are a culinary delight not to be missed, while the region's sardines are celebrated for their exceptional quality and freshness.

In essence, the Kvarner region is a tapestry of history, culture, and gastronomy, where every corner tells a story and every dish delights the senses.
